Library of Sumy State University:
General information Library is an important structural subdivision, which ensures educational, scientific-research and pedagogical processes with information at the university, it is a cultural-enlightener center of the university. 26,4 thousand readers use library services, there are over 300 thousand attendances, book issue – 875 thousand copies (information given acc. to 2001). 35 experts work at the library, 18 of them have higher education and 17 persons have secondary special education. You can get information about all the library measures at the Informational bulletins of the university and library, which are monthly released. Library stock The stock is universal in its contents, it includes such fields: social and political and economical, natural and technical fields, medicine, juridical and others. According to the contents of issues: books-478115, booklets-2560, periodicals-24133, methodical literature -197750, CDs-89, unpublished documents- 11285 (including: reports on ???-707, dissertations-126, abstracts-10452) and others. For 1.01.2002 the library stock counts 722381 specimens, titles 31478, including 478115 books. Among these there are: · 53% – educational – 383041 · 10% – scientific literature – 74090 5% – other 39603 As for the languages, the books are presented in: · 15,5% – the Ukrainian 74090 1,4% – foreign languages 6739 The stocks get 32-37 thousand specimens, 80% of 
them present educational-methodical literature annually. About 300 titles of periodicals are subscribed to annually. The editions that are absent at the library stock may be received by means of inter-library exchange system (ILES) from other libraries.

1. Alphabetical catalogues of general and structural subdivisions (official and public ones), which state about presence of editions of one or another author or collection at the library stock.
2. Systematical catalogues of general and structural subdivisions, which present reader a possibility to carry out a subject search at the library stock, select literature on a certain field of knowledge, problem or question.
3. Subject catalogue to the stock of medical literature, which gives a possibility of information search on a concrete subject.
4. Specialized catalogues to the stocks of dissertations, reports on SRW, abstracts, titles of essays, foreign editions.
5. Systematical card index where analytical materials on periodicals are represented in the field order.
6. Electronic catalogue of new editions since 1993, retro-catalogue counts 18 thousand titles, further work on data input is carried out.

MARK. The library is a registered user of this program product of SPE “Infor-system”.

Library service of Sumy State University library is an integrated system, which comprises: 1. Central library with structural subdivisions; 2. Libraries of the institutes at Sumy State University (2) in Konotop and Shostka. Machine-building college. 16 categories of readers are served by the library system. Service of the readers is carried out differentially, taking into account informational necessities of each category. Readers are given additional paid services: · copying of documents; · thematical selections on order; · night loan; off-day subscription. The library gives a possibility to use its informational resources at the reading-halls on the condition of the year-subscription to the wishing attendants who are not university students or collaborators. Recommendation indices – bibliographic textbooks, which give full information about presence of educational-methodical, scientific, informational editions, articles of periodicals on the theme of index. They are issued for help of educational-methodical process, self-education, popularization of knowledge. They are intended for students, may be used by teachers and will be useful for everybody interested in this problem.
11. The Ukrainian from olden days up to present. Seven world miracles. Cultural-enlightener activity Cultural-enlightener activity of the library is directed to the contribution to methodical work among students, forming of high moral qualities in future experts, national self-consciousness, interest for literature and art. Up to 120 mass measures are carried out annually, almost 200 book exhibitions are organized, revisions, views of editions, which are standing in all the structural subdivisions. Different mass measures are carried out in the literary drawing-rooms: literary, literary-musical, subject evenings, literary hours, contests, quizes, talks on different subjects, meetings with interesting people, creative intelligence of the city. There is a centre organizing public lectures in the literary drawing-rooms “We have at guests the Sumy Art museum”. There act art exhibitions, where you can meet their authors, talk to them, exchange opinions, impressions about the seen. Cooperation The library has been productively cooperating during a number of years with the Sumy Regional museum called after N.Onats’ky, National union of writers of Ukraine, National union of artist of Ukraine, theatre of musical drama and comedy of Shchepkin, Regional universal scientific library of N. Krups’ka. A reader has a right: To get any – without any exception – edition from the library stock on his order. A reader must: take care of the library stock, stick to the rules of the library use. Library invites its readers daily – since 900 until 1800 On Saturday – since 900until 1600 Day-off – Sunday. Last Friday of the month – sanitary day.
